Spotlight: DHS absent from National Cyber Security Awareness Month events


This week is supposed to mark the kick-off of National Cybersecurity Awareness Month, although you would never know it looking at what the Department of Homeland Security is doing (or not doing). DHS is the federal government sponsor of the campaign, which also includes participation by the National Cyber Security Alliance and the Multi-State Information Sharing Analysis Center. The DHS National Cyber Security Awareness Month website warns that "due to the lapse in federal funding, this website will not be actively managed." DHS officials had to cancel an appearance at the kick-off of the campaign in Boston on Tuesday. The NCSA and MS-ISAC appear to be moving ahead with events without DHS involvement, though. They have scheduled to hold a Twitter chat (#ChatSTC) on cybersecurity for Thursday at 3 p.m. ET, but without DHS participation. Read more
